This training is designed for professionals who work with individuals at significant risk of self-harm or suicide. It equips staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond safely and effectively to a ligature emergency — and to help prevent one from occurring.

About this course

This course is designed for professionals working with individuals who are at significant risk of self-harm or suicide by means of a ligature. It provides staff with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to recognise a ligature emergency, respond safely, and administer life support where required.

Please note: due to the nature of this subject, the course includes some content relating to strangulation and self-harm. This course is intended for professional staff only.

Who this course is for

This course is suitable for staff working in residential children’s homes, mental health and psychiatric units, supported living and adult care facilities, and any organisation where service users may be at risk of self-harm or suicide.

No prior specialist knowledge is required, though candidates should be physically able to participate in practical activities.

  • Supporting colleagues following a traumatic event
